The Great Eastern Home is a furniture and lifestyle store that has become the preferred destination for those with a keen eye for beauty and quality.
While it is generally believed that being successful in retail largely depends on being at the right place, we think otherwise. We believe there are buyers out there, who like us, value aesthetics, craftsmanship and quality, and are willing to go the extra mile.
So even though conventional market wisdom dictated a concrete-glass-steel mall, we opened
our doors in 2007 within the charming precincts of one of Mumbai’s oldest textile mills – the New Great Eastern Mills, established in 1839. We take pride in having revived the Mill’s legacy, reflected in the Store’s branding and its symbol of the nine fish.
In a space-starved city, the Store stands out as a one-of-its-kind. Spread over more than 50,000 square feet, it is a cluster of large, high-ceilinged spaces that retains most of its original character and feel. Trailing the facade are ancient banyans and luxurious bougainvillea. Adjoining the Store at the far end is a fresh-water pond.
The air changes from the time you drive through the gates, just off one of Mumbai’s main arterial roads, and step onto the covered entrance porch. The Great Eastern Home experience is not about making a quick sale. In fact, we encourage our customers to browse at their own pace, and linger for as long as they like, often over a cup of coffee…
Indeed, we wouldn’t be too far off if we claim that customers often leave as friends.
